The University of Birmingham has recently established a Life Sciences Enabling Technology – Mass Spectrometry platform under the direction of Professor Helen Cooper. We now seek to hire a highly motivated Experimental Officer in Mass Spectrometry to provide technical leadership for the Advanced Mass Spectrometry Facility in the School of Biosciences, and to deliver an advanced mass spectrometry service in support of researchers in the life sciences. The Facility currently comprises Thermo Fisher Q-Exactive HF, Orbitrap Elite, Q-Exactive, TSQ Vantage and Bruker SolariX mass spectrometers.
The Experimental Officerwill be responsible for the day-to-day operation and administration of the Facility, and for provision of the Advanced Mass Spectrometry service, which will primarily consist of quantitative proteomics in addition to other mass spectrometry analyses. The post holder will provide advice to users, design and conduct experiments, undertake data analysis, develop new methods, and supervise and train new and existing lab members.
Applicants will be expected to have a PhD in biological mass spectrometry and significant hands-on experience of quantitative proteomics and LC MS/MS. Experience of Fourier transform mass spectrometry would be an advantage.
